Would it be good for my Boyfriend to join the Navy post recession...?

My boyfriend is seriously considering the navy, and I am deeply concerned and weary in the midst of wanting and trying to be supportive and strong for him. I am concerned about him being in danger (with the war) and I am concerned about him getting screwed over by the government. Also, I heard that there has been a surplus in enrollment for the navy sense the recession, and that makes me curious whether he will get a good, well paying job that he deserves. I do not trust recruiters, so if anyone who knows the real deal can give me some insight, that would be awesome. Thanx!
