Question about chicken possibly going bad?

I have a package of Perdue chicken cutlets that the sell by date was January 16th 2010. I had them in the freezer for a week and 2 days ago I moved them to the fridge to thaw out. Today I wanted to cook them and they smell kind of funky. They are probably bad right?
