If the Hebrew word YOM (יום) does not always mean a 24 hour day, then how will we prove a Six Day Creation?

I imagine the rotation of the earth was much slower at the time of it's creation. God may have had to have the days slow so the temperature could be perfected. A full day could have been equivalent to a thousand years at that time. Who knows?
